Virginia's medical cannabis program upholds stringent marketing and advertising standards to ensure responsible communication and representation within the industry. Pharmaceutical processors are permitted to engage in marketing and advertising activities related to their products and the medical cannabis program, provided they adhere strictly to guidelines that prevent false or misleading information, target an adult audience, and avoid promotion to minors.

All marketing must refrain from false statements, promote excessive consumption, or depict minors consuming cannabis.

No marketing materials can resemble candy-like products, nor bear any insignia misleadingly suggesting government endorsement.

Advertisements cannot claim therapeutic benefits without substantial clinical evidence and must inform about potential risks.

Advertisements must be directed to an audience where at least 85% are expected to be 18 years or older.

Television and radio advertising are prohibited during regular school hours for elementary and secondary education levels.

Marketing should not depict the recreational use of cannabis or suggest its use as an intoxicant.

Dispensary pricing can be displayed only under specific circumstances, avoiding visibility to the general public.

Free cannabis product giveaways, coupons, and merchandising are strictly prohibited.

Digital presence through websites and social media must verify the user's age as 18 or above.

Educational engagements and information dissemination are encouraged, supporting an informed patient and public community.

Outdoor advertising has additional proximity restrictions related to schools, playgrounds, and treatment facilities.
